WESTERN BUREAU:

Neither the IMF nor the S&P CCC+ rating mattered to the navel ringed, tattooed, belly-button adorned revellers who invaded Negril on Independence weekend for the 'Do or Die' battle for supremacy between Appleton Temptation Isle and the Dream Weekend party marathon teams.

Defying all odds, ATI fans allowed Renaissance's Dr Dre and Blaze to titillate their loins with musical foreplay, while giving licence to Renegade disco to administer any medicine they saw fit.

While Dream Weekend fans were obedient slaves of DJs Coppershot, Dream Liquid and Chromatic serving their masters who teamed up reviving the likes of Shabba Ranks and Super Cat's 'Old School' hit.

It is estimated that 20,000 people flooded the 'Capital of Casual' and as casual and sexy as the party people were, that's what it was.

The level to which the sponsors attacked each other with guerilla marketing was evident in a town overtaken by billboards, banners, branded trucks and young fresh and green girls representing everything in sight.

But entertainment won and we can only assume that everybody went home happy.

As beyond the sun, beyond the vibe, beyond the experience, ATI and Dream Weekend were absolutely amazing.
