Congrats Reverend Walters
Published: Saturday | August 15, 2009
THE ST Catherine High School Past Students' Association wishes to congratulate the Rev Courtney Walters, a member of our alumni, for his positive role in the hostage situation at the Sangster International Airport in April of this year and, further to that, the recognition of his efforts by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Reverend Walters' achievement is also a credit to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, which is often beset by negative headlines and stereotyped as doing everything except serve, protect and reassure the Jamaican citizenry.
To those who know Rev Walters from his days at his alma mater, the description of him in The Gleaner of August 13 as calm and soft-spoken is not surprising. His days as a member of the Inter-secondary School Christian Fellowship (ISCF) at St Catherine High is well remembered by his peers, and his association with the Linstead Gospel Hall also stands out as a part of what shaped the Area One police chaplin.
Many times contributions like that of Rev Walters, in the line of duty, are taken for granted, so we lose the opportunities to celebrate positive action and consequently get mired in lamenting the negatives. Like the FBI, we congratulate him on a job well done and hope to use his achievement to inspire other young men at his alma mater towards positive goals.
I am, etc.,
Paul F. Brown
President
