Absolute rubbish

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE RESIDENTS of Mandeville and its environs are having a warm time keeping up with the disposal and collection of garbage.

Since we have been discouraged some time ago against the burning of garbage, bins of assorted sizes were put in place for the collection of our wastes.

However, since last year things have taken a turn for the worse: the majority of the big bins have been removed and the privately owned ones are now decorated with brightly coloured signs, 'private property'. Because the government-owned bins have been removed, some residents tend to drive around and dump their rubbish in other people's bins. So both householders and commercial operators are removing theirs.

The other option

If something is not done the people will resort to backyard burning, and we certainly do not want that.

So please, National Solid Waste Management Authority, replace those big blue bins in areas that people can dump, and collect the rubbish on time. Not all of us have the money to pay each time we go to the dump; and by the way, shouldn't our tax be paying for that? Will someone please explain what is happening, because I think this is absolute rubbish!

I am, etc.,
