Whyte broke on the scene in 2008 when she surprised seasoned campaigners Shericka Williams and Novlene Williams to win the national 400m title. She went on to represent Jamaica at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, where she made it to the final and finished seventh.

Since then, Whyte, who competed in the field events at Holmwood Technical, has been a respected runner in the 400m event. However, she was fifth at this summer's trials and, therefore, will only run on the 4x400m team at the World Championships.
