National representative Richard 'Shortman' Edwards has decided to remain with Harbour View Football Club (HVFC) instead of joining Portmore United for the upcoming Digicel Premier League season.

Donovan Hayles, the HVFC coach, said the two clubs were in deep negotiations when Edwards, who had been training with Portmore for a month, decided that he wanted to remain with his old club.

"I think with him coming back it will definitely boost our squad for the upcoming season," said Hayles in an interview with The Gleaner yesterday.

"He has a good understanding with the players on our team and he has also been an integral part of the unit over the years," he added.

The hard-tackling Edwards is a member of the Reggae Boyz squad that will battle Ecuador in a friendly international today at the Giants Stadium in New Jersey.

"I am happy that he has changed his mind from what we had originally thought he would do because he is a leader and he is one of the senior players that has helped us to guide younger players in the right direction," reasoned Hayles.

"He also has an excellent attitude towards the game of football and I'm very happy that he has decided to stay here," Hayles noted.

Loan transfer

Hayles also disclosed that the Stars of the East have secured the services of national Under-21 striker Alanzo Adlam from Sporting Central Academy on a loan transfer for next season.

"I definitely think that he can deliver for us this season because he is a quality player and a good goalscorer who understands the game quite well," said Hayles.

Adlam, a former Excelsior High School Manning Cup standout, scored eight goals in his debut season in the top league competition last season.

Hayles added that Kemar Petrekin has also returned to Harbour View, following a one-year loan stint with Boys' Town.

However, the team has lost the services of midfielder Kemeel Wolfe, who has re-signed with his former club, Portmore United.
