Dogfight for final semi-final place

Western Bureau:
On a weekend which saw the star-studded Hanover Masters tasting defeat for the first time this season, one semi-final placing in the 2009 Steve Bucknor/Spoon Auto Supply Western Masters Football League remains unresolved as FCF and Forever Sports both registered good wins.
Forever Sports and FCF, who are vying for the sole remaining semi-final slot from Zone A, which already has a qualifier in defending champions Violet Tourers, both secured maximum points in contrasting styles, which means they remain deadlocked at 29 points each.
In Sunday's game, FCF secured maximum three points without kicking a ball as Russians failed to show for their scheduled game at Flankers. Meanwhile, Forever Sports reported in a mean mood against Brown's Town, spanking them 4-1 at Addison Park in St Ann.
Outstanding game
However, while Forever Sports have completed their fixtures, FCF have an outstanding game against Violet Tourers. A win or a draw against Violet Tourers will be enough to send FCF forward. However, a loss will see goal difference being used as the decider between them and Forever Sports.
Violet Tourers, which had already topped Zone A, consolidated their position with a good 3-1 win against their sister team Original Tourers. The win lifted them to 34 points.
In Zone B where Hanover Masters and Logwood Stumps have already secured the group's two semi-final places, it was a final round with at least one surprising result as the seemingly invincible Hanover Masters were beaten 3-2 by Falmouth Masters. Interestingly, the teams played to a 1-1 draw in their first-round meeting.
In another Zone B game, the enterprising Logwood Stumps continued to display impressive form by scoring a good 2-0 win against Infernal.
The win, which came courtesy of goals by Timothy Graham and Winston Carbin, lifted their tally to 27 points.
With the final Zone A place to be decided, the competition's semi-finals, which should have started this weekend, is now in limbo. Violet Tourers are down to meet Logwood Stump and Hanover Masters will play either FCF or Forever Sports.
