Water woes
Published: Wednesday | August 12, 2009
I AM a citizen of the Gregory Park/Cedar Grove Estate in Portmore, and I am very concerned about the fact that there have been constant lengthy water lock-offs inside the community at least once per week, sometimes for two to three days.
Usually, there is no notification or explanation, and I must hasten to say that this has nothing to do with the current dry spell that we are going through. This is a year-round situation. I am aware that currently we are experiencing a drought and conservation of freshwater supply is prudent.
Personal hygiene
Nonetheless, National Water Commission is not the one to hold back on disconnection due to non-payment of bills, yet at the same time, we the customers who pay our bills are not being satisfied. In a time as hot as now, we need water for both personal hygiene and to fight against various viruses which are rampant around the community and the country alike.
The influenza A (H1N1) and the malaria virus are two common examples. How do they expect us to protect ourselves and maintain hydration in such a harsh temperature with the constant disconnection of water every other day? As paying customers, we deserve some semblance of explanation for the constant unexplained lock-offs. We deserve a better quality of service.
Thank you for allowing space in your publication.
I am, etc.,
