We should think for ourselves

THE EDITOR, Sir:

"We have in our country too many people who don't think and reason for themselves, are told something and given it and accept it and spit it out by rote." This was reportedly said by Professor Maureen Samms-Vaughan and appeared on the inner page of The Gleaner dated July 9.

This should have made the headline of the day rather than the usual pronouncements coming from politicians.

Mental confusion

This culture is rooted in our Eurocentric Christian theology and colonial schooling. It has created mental confusion and exploitation among our people. Is there any wonder that we are in economic, social and mental confusion?

It is still in the interest of a few, including some of our leaders and some inferior thinking black people, to perpetuate this thinking. None but ourselves can free our minds, not Rome, Washington, London or Paris.

I am, etc.,
