The Bill Ive Tennis Tournament reached an exciting climax on the newly refurbished grass courts at the Georgia Tennis Club in Trelawny recently.
Competition was hot among the final group of seven contestants which included Ray Schnoor (captain), Andrew and Martin Hopwood, David Muschett, Dorothy Gallant, James Ransome and Andrew Grant.
At the end of a gruelling set of matches, David Muschett and James Ransome emerged tied for first with 22 points each.
The play-off to decide the winner was not played. An injury forced Muschett to concede to Ransome who later collected the winning trophy from Ray Schnoor.
It was Ransome's first lien on the championship trophy which had been won three times in the past by Ray Schnoor. Schnoor won in 2002, 2003 and 2005.
No competition
The 2004 champion was Errol Dunn while Andrew Grant celebrated in 2006 and David Muschett, 2007. There was no competition last year.
Dorothy Gallant, the main organiser of the tournament, and score keeper Collin Gallant were both lauded for ensuring a successful tournament.
