The Editor, Sir:

I had always thought that Montego Bay being the tourist capital of the island that it would be the natural location for the relevant ministry. In fact, there are some people who still believe that the Ministry of Tourism is located in that city.

I happened to be in Montego Bay recently during the opening of the ministry's new headquarters, which is located across the road from the Sangster International Airport, a location which could not be better appointed.

prominence

I believe the prominence of the building in Mobay will not only be conducive to the more efficient operation of one of the most important industries in the country, but it is also symbolic of the importance that the Government as placed on this industry as a significant player in its economic recovery programme.

I am familiar with the original plan for this building. It was to be the western hub for a major international courier service operating in Jamaica. I am therefore proud to see that the leaders of the tourist industry in the west have by this acquisition made sure that pride of place is given to our own home-rown industry.

I congratulate the industry leaders and the minister in charge for this bold initiative.

I am, etc.,
