Mullings was second in the event to Panama's Alonso Edwards, who clocked a meet record 20.00.

Veronica Campbell-Brown, the 2007 World Championships gold medallist in the 100 metres, was expected to compete in both the 100 and 200 metres at the meet but pulled out after a slight injury a few days ago at the Athens Grand Prix.

Berlin-bound Delloreen Ennis-London, Trecia Smith and Danny McFarlane were the other Jamaicans to finish in the top three of their events.

Ennis-London posted a season-best 12.60 for her third-place finish in the 100-metres hurdles as American Lolo Jones raced to a world-leading time 12.47 to beat compatriot Damu Cherry, 12.53. Jamaica's Lacena Golding-Clarke also did a season-best 12.73.

Smith, the 2005 triple jump gold medallist, did 14.26m for third as Cuba's Yargelis Savigne took the win with 14.80m ahead of teammate Mabel Gay (14.44m).

In the men's 400m hurdles heat two, McFarlane (48.77) was second behind the United States' Bershawn Jackson (48.55) but was third overall as Puerto Rico's Javier Culson won heat two in 48.46.

Fourth-place finishes

Jamaica's Nikeisha Wilson, Shereefa Lloyd and Simone Facey all had fourth-place finishes, while Aleen Bailey had a fifth-place finish. Wilson clocked 56.56 in the 400-metres hurdles as world leader Lashinda Demus of the United States won in 54.29.

Lloyd recorded 51.54 in the 400 metres as 2007 World Championships silver medallist, Nicola Sanders of Great Britain, won in a season-best 51.21 seconds.

Facey and Bailey both clocked 11.31 seconds in the women's 100 metres as the American Carmelita Jeter bounced back to form by taking the event in 10.97, ahead of her teammate Allyson Felix, who produced a season-best 11.08.
