  • McCarty, Lobban score centuries

    Centuries by LIME's topline batsman Andre McCarthy and his teammate Marvin Lobban highlighted the third round of the Digicel cricket series Reggae Jammin Business House 50-over league at Chalmers Avenue last Sunday.

    McCartly, the former Jamaica and West Indies Under-19 player, slammed 139 against National Continental Baking Company, while opening batsman Marvin Lobban scored 131, both spearheading defending champions LIME to a massive 209-run victory.

    Batting first, LIME raced to 383 for seven off their allotted 45 overs. The two century makers received good support from national player Horace Miller (50) who shared in an 83-run opening stand with Lobban, as Sean Johnson took 3-70 and Roland Henry 2-65.

    National Continental Baking Company were restricted to 174 for five in their allotted overs - Ranville Brown 57, Henry 40, Richard Johnson 39; Damion Jacobs 2-18, McCarthy 2-23.

    AT SPRING VILLAGE: Jamaica Broilers beat Digicel by two wickets in a closely contested match. Digicel 140 all out from 32.3 overs - Shamar Anderson 35, Lloyd Gold 16; Nicoy Lindo 4-31, former national player Andre Russell 2-25, Noel Officer 2-26.

    Jamaica Broilers 141 for eight off 33.3 overs - Russell 52, Fabian Lakeman 30; West Indies fast bowler Darren Powell taking 4-40 off 10 overs, Garfield Moore 2-26.

    AT JAMALCO: Jamalco defeated Sagicor by seven wickets. Sagicor 99 all out in 29 overs - Eddie Bailey 24, Hugh Meredith 22; Brian Buchanan 4-22, Derrick Spence 2-11. Jamaica 100 for three off 14.1 overs - Barrington Brown 41, Calvert Wittick 22; Adrian Moulton 2-19.

    The match between St Ann Jamaica Bauxite and NWC, which should have been played at Kaiser, Discovery Bay, was postponed.

    Meanwhile, the Reggae Jammin league continues today with three matches starting at 11 a.m.

    These are Digicel vs LIME in the feature at Kensington Park, Jamalco vs St Ann Jamaica Bauxite at Port Esquivel and NWC vs Jamaica Broilers at Mona.

  • Close going in KO football

    High-riding Scotiabank advanced to the quarter finals of the KSAFA/Scotiabank Group-sponsored Business House KO football competition when they clipped the home team UWI 1-0 on Saturday, July 11.

    Nicholas McCreath, the former Jamaica under-20 player, got the winner via a penalty in the 37th minute.

    Scotiabank, who are unbeaten so far this season having won all three matches in Division I (league) to be sole leaders, join Carib Cement, The Gleaner, UWI, Courts, NWC, Nubian Construction and The Wisynco Group as the teams advancing to the quarter-finals.

    Gleaner, however, have drawn a bye to the semi-finals following their 3-0 win over defending champions Petrojam, thanks to second-half goals from Kemel Mullings, Jabari Holness and Doran Foster.

    Meanwhile, Nubian Construction drubbed NCB 6-0, thanks to double strikes from Boys' Town Premier League player Fabian Watkins in the first half and Andre Fagan in the second. NWC clipped JNBS 6-5 on penalties after both were locked at 3-3 in regulation and extra time.

    In another KO match, league champions Carib Cement defeated Norman Manley International Airport 2-0 with goals from Ingi Lowe in the 33rd minute and Twain Wynter in the 47th.

    In other matches played a week prior to the others, Wisynco clipped NHT 1-0, while Courts blanked Jamaica Fire Brigade 2-0.

    In a recent KSAFA/Western Sports Division I match, cup holders Carib Cement were held to a 1-1 draw by UWI. Jermaine 'Fast Car' Rowe sent Cement ahead in the 43rd minute, but this was cancelled out by an 89th minute penalty from Devon Haughton.

  • Seprod, Marksman in domino final

    Seprod and Marksman will meet in the Jamaica Electrical Technologies (JET) sponsored Business House Division I domino final following contrasting semi-final wins at the NHT car park on Friday night.

    Marksman ended the dream run of KO champions Berger Paints, defeating them 145-115 in one semi-final in which they led from start to finish.

    Seprod, the 2007 Division I champions, beat Jamaica Brandy 94-85 in the other semi-final.

    Meanwhile, the Division II final will see National Baking Company Limited up against the SDC on July 24.

    In semi-final action on Friday night at the NHT car park, SDC defeated Airports Authority 140-136 while National Baking company crushed STATIN 149-100.

    Both finals are scheduled for Friday, July 24 at a venue to be announced.

  • Netball semi-finals

    Scotiabank 'A' crushed the Wisynco Group 48-6 in the quarter-finals of the Business House Netball Association open league at the Leila Robinson Courts last Tuesday and were drawn to play Scotiabank 'B' in one semi-final.

    On Saturday, July 11, Scotiabank 'B', who like their 'A' team are unbeaten, also defeated the Wisynco Group 28-14, while RBTT clipped Sagicor Life 29-26 to earn their semi-final berth. The other semi-finalists are unbeaten Jamaica Broilers who beat Sagicor Life 33-12 at the Leila Robinson Courts last Thursday.

    Jamaica Broilers and RBTT meet in the other semi-final encounter and the winners will take on the winners of the Scotiabank 'A' and 'B' clash in the July 25 final.

    Results of matches played on July 11 are as follows, these of academic interest only. ATL Group beat Housing Agency of Jamaica 28-12, NCB defeated Bureau of Standards Jamaica 16-10, Heart Trust/NTA drubbed GraceKennedy 26-4, the ICD Group beat Jamaica Business Development Centre 23-13, SERHA crushed Pan Caribbean Financial Services 22-6, NHT defeated Jamaica Infrastructure 13-9, Digicel clipped JUTC 18-17 and NWC got by JPS 21-18.

  • Division II football

    In Division II Business House football matches played last Wednesday, leaders Petrojam clipped GraceKennedy 2-1 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, Tivoli.

    Akeem Simmonds sent Petrojam ahead in the 31st minute, but Marvin Jones got the equaliser for Grace six minutes later before Richard Shultz sealed the issue for Petrojam in the 87th minute.

    In two other matches played last Wednesday, NHT who are joint leaders with Petrojam on seven points but have played more matches, drew 2-2 with Jamaica Fire Brigade at Jesse Ripoll playing field. And the Wisynco Group edged Nubian Construction 1-0 via a 23rd-minute goal from Calvert Coke.
