PHILADELPHIA (AP):

Walter Martinez converted a penalty kick in the 36th minute for Honduras to defeat Canada 1-0 in the Gold Cup quarter-finals yesterday.

Martinez was trying a bicycle kick when Paul Staltieri was caught pulling on his jersey by referee Joel Aguilar.

Honduras will play the winners of last night's late game between the United States and Panama at Lincoln Financial Field.

Something to celebrate

With the state of their country's leadership in flux, the Honduran faithfuls came out by the thousands to cheer on their team. The fans waved the flag or draped it over the railing in several sections of the stadium, and greatly outnumbered the Canadian fans.

The team gave the Hondurans something to celebrate.

The semi-finals are on Thursday in Chicago with the final set for the following Sunday at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
