The front-running PLEASURE FLIGHT (5-1) held on by a neck to win the overnight allowance feature for the L.C. McKenzie Memorial Trophy from THE QUEEN at Caymanas Park yesterday.

Ridden by Clive Lynch for owner Ingrid A. Gordon and the 2006 Derby- winning trainer Eraldo 'Lance' Fullerton, PLEASURE FLIGHT made virtually all. However, he had to be driven out to stave off the fast-finishing 10-1 chance THE QUEEN under in-form Panamanian jockey, Dick Cardenas, and finished lame.

MR BLAIR, the mount of leading jockey Dane Nelson, was installed a 9-5 favourite in the 11-strong field, but missed the break and was always under the gun, eventually finishing eighth.

carrying the fight

PLEASURE FLIGHT, meanwhile, led from MINISTEROFFINANCE (36-1) and FIRST LADY (7-2). but went clear on entering the straight. It was left to THE QUEEN, who was forced to come wide into the straight, to carry the fight. But her effort proved a trifle late.

Fullerton said that although PLEASURE FLIGHT was unplaced behind TOBAGO recently, the four-year-old son of Natural Selection - Flight Of Fancy reported well refreshed for this race and he felt good about his chances.

"This horse has been pretty consistent and my only concern was whether he would leave the gates cleanly from the number one post position, as he gave it away at the start in his previous race.

"Things worked out well on this occasion and I give thanks to the Father," said Fullerton, who saddled RANSOM MAN to win the 2006 Derby with Brian Harding aboard.

Earlier in the afternoon, recent winner MR SKILL made all once again to win the knotty open allowance race over the straight five course at odds of 9-1. The four-year-old gelding, who was a winner on the previous Saturday, held on by a neck from the fast-finishing 14-1 shot TRIPLE ACCOUNT. MR SKILL was ridden by Cardenas for trainer Wayne DaCosta.

The Desmond Shand-trained 4-5 favourite EL PEQUENO, running with apprentice Lenroy Collins again in the saddle, completed the hat-trick in the sixth and final race of the CTL Claiming Series over 1600 metres.

Champion jockey Omar Walker rode two winners on a day when MR SKILL, the Stanley Findlay-trained three-year-old colt GO ROBIN GO (16-1) and the Vin Edwards-trained EL DIABLO at 7-1 provided the upsets.
