Osmosis turns 10 in fine style

Despite increasing inflation and the economic recession, the organisers of Osmosis promise to continue giving value for money, especially as it celebrates 10 years.

The event started in 1999 when three friends - Philip Palmer, Jermaine Brown and Collette Morrison - met in Beverly Hills and decided to start a party. From a small pool party to a huge event with exquisite decor and food, Osmosis has certainly grown.

Despite its challenges over the years, one of the directors, Deane Shepherd, said Osmosis has maintained its quality by sticking to a formula.

"With the constant inflation and devaluation, it becomes more difficult every year to give patrons value for money," Shepherd told The Sunday Gleaner, while noting that patrons are always given the luxury of a $10,000 party for only $3,000.

"People expect a certain standard. People like Osmosis because there is always something different."

Shepherd said it has also been challenging to reinvent the party each year as people expect creativity. Nonetheless, he said: "The party keeps evolving as opposed to ageing."

The Osmosis Magazine, which was added last December, is one of the elements that have helped the party to evolve. The magazine has engaged Osmosis followers by making them feel involved.

"The magazine was a great way to get people immersed in the party. It tells patrons what to expect, it gives a better perspective into the party and it raises the profile of the event so it becomes like a lifestyle brand," Shepherd told The Sunday Gleaner.

He added that the past decade has been one in which Osmosis has defined and refined itself.

"It's unbelievable. It seems so far in terms of where we are coming from. It is a really overwhelming feeling. We stick to giving the patrons what they want, that has been our formula," Shepherd said.

For the 10th anniversary on Saturday, Shepherd said there will be a massive celebration with new restaurants and a new venue, The Stables, Caymanas Estate.

"It's gonna be our best set-up and decor. We will be celebrating with our loyal supporters. It's gonna be an awesome celebration," he said.
