It should be a close battle between St Ann and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) in the final of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Senior Cup competition, which takes place today at Chedwin Park, starting at 10:00 a.m.
St Ann with Shane Powell, Andre Dwyer, Marlon Pinnock and Gifton Wray will be seeking to repeat their feat of 2007, when they won the competition.
The JDF, who defeated dethroned champions Kensington CC in their semi-final rubber, will be looking to make their way back to the semi-pro Jamaica SuperCricket League, from which they were relegated last season.
play-off
The winners of the final will play the seventh-place finishers in the SuperCricket League, Westmoreland, in a play-off for a spot in the top division.
"We met earlier this year and they got first innings over us and we are looking forward to the challenge again. We want to ensure that we come out on top and advance to the Super League play-off," said St Ann's coach, Cleon Smith.
For the JDF to come out on top, much will depend on in-form batsman Joseph Palmer, who scored a brilliant 131 against Kensington, Bereston Reid, who has scored the most runs this season, veteran Wayne Cuff and Akbar Moodie.
"We have been playing consistent cricket this season and believe once we bat as well as we can we should win. We want to prove that we are better than this league and move up back to the top," said JDF coach, Staff Sergeant Steve Wallace.
