How the other half lives: Birthday Celebrations

Some birthday parties are just not the same without lots of balloons.
Birthdays are special for everyone. How persons choose to celebrate the anniversary of their birth varies and most times this depends on which neck of the woods they're from.
Some tend to be classy and go all out and especially when money is not an issue, they tend to pull out all the stops. However, on the flip side, there are those who are not able to be as lavish, but that does not stop them from putting on their own shindig to celebrate their special day.
How they celebrate
The Party: Much like a wedding, careful planning is done for such an event. Invitations are printed and sent out to special guests. The party is either kept at home if said person has a lovely big garden or backyard or poolside. On the other hand, a big dance is held and usually invitations are done by word of mouth.
Food
Food can be catered such as; hors d'oeuvres, main course and dessert, and it can be anything from caviar to lobster thermador and, of course, the birthday cake.
On the other side of town, there is not necessarily any set menu. Instead, the 'jerk man', 'corn man' or other food vendors set up at the venue and people buy what they want and of course, buying out the bar is a must.
Music
For some, the party cannot go on without several big speaker boxes playing quite loudly anything from dancehall, rock steady or reggae. However, some opt for more subtle music such as disco, techno or soul without keeping the neighbours awake all night with loud music.
Décor
How the venue looks tells a lot about the celebration. Some hire a decorator who usually does a fantastic job portraying the theme of the party. Others save on this expense and the most that is done as it relates to décor are some balloons, ribbons and cut-outs of shapes such as stars which are placed all over the room.
Cake
The cake is a major part of any birthday celebration. The difference though is that while some opt for a gateau, icebox or cheesecake, others prefer plain cake with icing or frosting. But, despite where you are from, some form of celebration is a must when your birthday comes around.
