The Gleaner's Carl Gilchrist went to the Ocho Rios High School in St Ann last week to quiz students on their plans as they get ready to leave their school within the next few weeks.

Shantel Reid, 17:

I plan to go to college. I want to be an accountant. Start a small business, it depends, maybe hair products and cosmetics. Yes, I know how to prepare a business plan, but I don't think I would be able to manage on my own; maybe with two of my colleagues.

Roxann Dennis, 16:

I plan to go to college. I want to be an entrepreneur. I would love to start a business after I leave school. I'm not sure I could manage, but with help from experienced persons, I should be able to. I would go into trading, maybe a haberdashery.

Martel Wright, 17:

I plan to come back to sixth form here (Ocho Rios High) then go to UWI to study to be a chemical engineer. Yes, I would go into business; I would open a restaurant because I love to cook. Yes, I could manage on my own. I think I have the qualities and characteristics of a good businessman.

Nickadia Pearson, 17:

When I leave Ocho Rios High, I plan to attend the Moneague College and train to become a primary education teacher. Yes, I think I would start a small business, floral arrangement. There is a wide variety of flowers out there that people don't know about. I think I can manage on my own because I have what it takes, I know what I need to do, basically to know how to manage my money.

Tannoya Kidd, 16:

After leaving here, I plan to do A' Levels at sixth form or attend pre-university school. At university, I plan to major in psychology or bio-technology. Well, I guess I would do business, but I would have to learn because I'm not really a business person. I'm a science person. But yes, I think I could manage a small business on my own. I've never done a business plan, but could learn.

Marissa Wilson, 16:

After I leave here, I will go to a nursing school to become a registered nurse. Small business? No, I don't think so; it's not my thing. My thing is in the medical field, not business.

Sari Israel, 16:

I'm planning to go into the Jamaica Constabulary Force or become a teacher. Yes, I would start a small business, but I'm not sure what type of business. I think I can manage on my own.
