Police should show restraint

The Editor, Sir:

As a former police officer, I am in solidarity with my former colleagues in their disagreement on being blanketed with the wage freeze affecting all members of the public service.

I am also in full agreement with the Government of Jamaica and its position to include the security forces where this freeze is concerned. I urge the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to exercise some national responsibility, as it has done and is willing to continue to do. These are very difficult times and all are being affected. However, if we break the bank today, what will be left for tomorrow?

Urging restraint

I strongly urge restraint on the part of my former colleagues as it pertains to any protest action, as our country is not only experiencing trying financial times but we continue to struggle with what appears to be a culture of criminality being imposed on our country by a minority who will only seize the opportunity to heap more destruction on our fragile society.

I urge continued dialogue which will seek some national solution and not national destruction.

I am, etc.,
