Inexpensive Mother's Day gifts
Published: Monday | May 4, 2009
It's the one day when everyone remembers to be nice to the number-one woman in his/her life. In the coming days, the shops will be filled with persons trying to find Mother's Day gifts that have meaning but will not send them to the poorhouse. We are in a recession and things are tight, so if you still have not made up your mind, here are some suggestions from the Lifestyle team to help you.
1. Being in the technology age, give her a personlised DVD from family members and others who consider her to be like a mom to them. She can keep the DVD and play again and again. It can be easily made using a camcorder.
2. Download her favourite songs (the ones you hear her singing all the time) on an iPod and show her how to use it. They are not as expensive anymore, plus you don't need one with much storage space. If she's anything like my mom, she doesn't have that many songs that she truly loves.

3. Mother's Day in England is long gone (March), but I can always give my mom a few yards of linen fabric because even in her 70s, she still likes to sew her own clothes and she can't seem to have enough linen.
4. I could also buy her a hat from Cinderella Hats; one in the national colours that she could wear to her seniors' club and show off to her friends.

5. Treat her to a massage and a facial at a spa.
6. Take her to brunch, the entire family can chip in to pay for it.

7. Give her an edible bouquet that looks as good as flowers and is not expensive at all.
8. A mini day at the spa with her choice of treatments; from manicure to massages. Again, everyone can contribute to the cost.
