WASHINGTON, D.c. (AP):
President Barack Obama yesterday defended his decision to release Bush-era memos outlining interrogation techniques, telling a sceptical audience at the CIA that it would make Americans more safe, not less.
The Obama administration released last week a series of key legal opinions that amount to the government's fullest accounting yet of the harshest techniques authorised under President George W. Bush and used to question suspected terrorists in the early stages of the fight against terrorism.
