Harper praises Jamaica

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper yesterday personally thanked Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding for his reaction to Sunday night's hijacking in Montego Bay, St James. Harper said Jamaican authorities handled the situation with "a professionalism and a friendship that we shall never forget".

Sensationalist coverage of the event has been minimal. Many international media outlets have quoted Jamaican Information Minister Daryl Vaz in his assurances that the hijacking was an instance of a "mentally challenged youngster" and "not anything that would be of concern in terms of an international incident".
