Geddes ... netted a double
Western Bureau:
Seba United extended their lead atop the standings in the 2008-09 Captain's Bakery Western Super Football League on Sunday, when goals by Ricardo Geddes (2), Delroy Ellis and Wilfred Smith gave them a big 4-0 win over 10th-placed Grange Hill, at the Belle Isle Community Centre in Westmoreland.
Seba United's win, their third consecutive success since winning the competition's first end-of-round final, has lifted them to 35 points, seven clear of second-placed Frome FC, which could only manage a 1-1 draw against Negril FC that left them on 28 points.
Creating waves
While Seba United were creating waves at Belle Isle, third-placed Granville (26) suffered a major setback in the feature game of a Jarrett Park triple-header, losing 1-0 against Wadadah, which have now moved up to fourth on 25 points.
"We are going to lodge a protest against Wadadah because we have reasons to believe they used an ineligible player against us," said Granville's coach, Mrs Tracey Reid. "If the appeal works in our favour, it would move us up into second place."
In the first game at Jarrett Park, fourth-placed Bamboo FC (20) spanked bottom-placed Mount Salem (7) by a convincing 3-1 margin. After Kevin Bryan scored in the 38th minute to give Bamboo a 1-0 first-half lead, Mount Salem drew level from a Martin Smith penalty in the 50th minute. However, the Bamboo team roared back to take victory through goals from Tristan Cunningham and Frederick Brown in the 78th and 87th minutes, respectively.
In the second game of the triple-header, Montpelier FC added to the misery of the Montego Bay teams that were on show at Jarrett Park, when they battled back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Violet Kickers 3-1. Ryan Binns gave Violet Kickers a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, but Montpelier stormed back to secure victory through goals from Oliver Bright, Scion McNeish and Iton Scott.
In another Sunday game, struggling Salt Spring (13), pulled closer to mid-table when they clipped eighth-placed Clarke's Town (15) 1-0 at the Hyde Community Centre, in Trelawny.
