Gibson offers $50 student tickets

For as little as $50, school children can see triple Olympic Games gold medallist and the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt in action at Saturday's Gibson Relays, to be held at the National Stadium.
Neville 'Teddy' McCook, chairman of the Gibson Relays organising committee, said the low admission fee is part of their drive to get the students to come out and watch their classmates compete on the same stage as Bolt.
Bolt rocked the Bird's Nest in Beijing last August with devastating runs of 9.69 and 19.30, to win the men's 100 and 200 metres in world-record times. He was also part of Jamaica's 4x100m team that took gold in a world-record 37.10.
"The people who we really want to come are these junior high and all-age schools. For $50 (bleacher tickets), they can come, not only to see athletics, but to see their schools participate and run on the same stage that Usain and these people are running on," said McCook.
McCook, who is president of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Track and Field Association, implored schools to take up the offer.
"The schools should take advantage of it ... as long as the schools purchase it in advance. They will not get it on the day of the event. They must get it before; the latest, Friday," he said.
Interested schools should contact Patsy Thomas at 926-4652 or 847-6632 to place their orders. School principals will have to send a signed letter, stating how many tickets are needed.
Tickets go on sale at the Stadium ticket office tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Meanwhile, McCook confirmed entries from Canada, the United States, Cayman Islands and a large group of Korean athletes, who are training here in Jamaica. He said they are also working to get a few minors from Antigua.
