Letter of the day: We need short-term solutions to crime

The Editor, Sir:THE INCREASED acts of violence, school dropouts, teenage pregnancies, gang violence, rapes, abduction and death, among other social maladies, are turning Jamaica into one of those scary movies we rush to watch at the theatre on a Saturday night.

Handle death penalty with care

The Editor, Sir:IN ANTONN Brown's letter published on November 19, "It is wrong to kill people who kill people to show that killing is wrong" he stated that frustration may be a natural response to the violence and disorder in contemporary Jamaica.

'MPs can make use of the UWI'

The Editor, Sir:The article "Shallow debate - Members of Parliament (MP) ill-prepared for capital punishment vote" (Gleaner, November 24), ends with an entreaty to the Senate, which I share: "Make the debate (on capital punishment) more educational than emotional."
