The Ministry of Education and Youth says schools will officially reopen on Wednesday, September 3.

According to Chief Education Officer Jasper Lawrence, the move would allow for schools to assess damage from Tropical Storm Gustav and report to regional offices.

Despite the September 3 date for students to return, some schools, including Manchester High, have asked teachers and other members of staff to report tomorrow at the usual starting time.

UWI opens tomorrow

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, advises that normal operations resume tomorrow and all administrative offices and other services will be open for business at the usual times.

The university says in light of the disruptions caused by Gustav, registration will be extended for another two days - Monday and Tuesday this week - and academic staff will be available for counselling during this period.

Classes will begin on Wednesday.

Students at the Western Jamaica Campus are advised that registration and academic counselling will take place on Tuesday.

Students in the Faculty of Humanities and Education should also note that the Dean's Address will take place on Tuesday, at 10 a.m. while those in the Faculty of Social Sciences will be addressed by their dean at 2 p.m.
