Gustav and looters
published: Saturday | August 30, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

I have been reading your articles concerning Gustav and the trail of damage it has done to your beautiful country.

My heart truly goes out to those who have sustained loss and I can only hope the recovery is fast, knowing the pain will last for sometime. But what really sickens me is the stories of looters and their reactions to someone else's loss.

Prey

It is often said that mankind joins its forces in times of disaster. Then, if so, where do these people fit in? Anyone who takes the liberty to prey on another, in such a way, is nothing but a dog of the gutter and deserves no better treatment.

I have been to Jamaica twice this year and am coming again in September. There is so much good and love in your country that it outweighs the bad. It still saddens me, however, to see this sort of thing. But, for now, stay strong and keep smiling, Jamaica.

I am, etc.,
