Big blow to banana plantations
With a week to go before banana export begins in Jamaica, farmers in St Mary are facing almost complete devastation after the passing of Tropical Storm Gustav.

No dislocation of cruise-ship arrivals

Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett said yesterday that, by all indications, the tourism sector would not be seriously affected by Gustav.

Airlines resume flights at airports

The island's two airports, the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston and the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James reopened their doors yesterday afternoon after shutting down Thursday as a result of Gustav.

Playing catch up to inflation - Interest rate crests 15%

Jamaica's treasuries rose to a new high this month above 15 per cent as interest rates continue to trend up, but not enough to offset inflation which the central bank now estimates could end as high as 17 per cent this fiscal year.
