Hundreds of motor fans are expected to cram the corners of the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston, next weekend, for the three-day 'Caribbean Karting Carnival' international go-kart race meet.

Return of the drags

COMPETITION IS ingrained in the human spirit. The need to constantly prove oneself against some benchmark, be it time or some other like-minded individual; even oneself. Human endeavour without competition is like knowledge without application, like breathing in a vacuum. It is just pointless.

I have a theory. The popularity of a sport is directly related to the cost of its gear. Football, tennis, badminton, cricket all use gear that is either easily fashioned out of household materials or refuse, or the gear is readily (cheaply) available to the man in the street.
