Police take aim at helping children
published: Saturday | June 7, 2008

MAY PEN, CLARENDON:

Over 60 police officers from Area 3, who recently went on a driving course, spent Thursday in the troubled Canaan Heights community of Clarendon painting and landscaping the Canaan Heights Basic School.

The police officers also used the medium to interact with the over 60 children who attend the school and other members of the community.

Inspector Alvin Robb, who is in charge of the Police Motor Driving School based at the Staff College in Spanish Town, told The Gleaner that "this project is a part of our recent initiative that we would adopt a programme wherever we go to perform our activities and to use the police officers from these areas to perform these functions".

The day's activities went well as the school was painted and landscaped, children were fed and police officers interacted with community members through domino games and football.

Constabulary Communication Network liaison officer for Clarendon, Constable Camay Watson, said that despite a relatively small turnout, the project went well.
