Findlay scores ton
published: Saturday | December 15, 2007

Left-handed opening batsman Shawn Findlay was the only bright spark on yesterday's first day of the final Jamaica Cricket Association trial match at Melbourne Oval.

Findlay, who was named the best fielder in the recent KFC Cup one-day tournament won by Jamaica, scored 114 from 131 deliveries to help David Bernard's XI to 255 against Tamar Lambert's XI, which closed on 61 for two.

During his innings, which included 11 fours and five sixes, Findlay had one reasonably good partnership - 64 for the first wicket with Xavier Marshall, who contributed 16.

"I am happy for the runs," said Findlay, noting that after three poor matches prior to yesterday's "the century came at the right time heading into the tournament".

Bevon Brown, batting at number six, chipped in with 51 while Andrew Richardson, who returned to action after being sidelined with an ankle injury, hit 20.

Wayne Simpson took 3-31 and Odean Brown 3-33, while Dwight Stewart and Jermaine Lawson, who both suffered from injury recently, ended with 1-35 off five overs and none for 60 off 10 overs, respectively.

In their turn at bat, Keith Hibbert, 30, and Lorenzo Ingram, 24, were dismissed late in the evening session after posting a 59-run opening stand.
