BIZARRE! Nurse kills self, two daughters; murder-suicide shocks nation
Murder-suicide took on a bizarre face in the tourist capital of Montego Bay, St. James, yesterday, when a 41-year-old critical-care nurse reportedly injected and killed her two children with what is believed to be potassium chloride, before taking her own life.

True United Sisters helping single mothers

Perched on a hillside on Fletcher's Avenue in Linstead, St. Catherine, is the home of True United Sisters, a charitable organisation which is providing hope for teen mothers, single mothers and at-risk children of single mothers.

Minors having high-risk sex

At least 42 per cent of adolescents, ages nine to 17 years, are sexually active, with less than 30 per cent of them consistently using contraceptives, thus, exposing themselves to sexually transmitted infections and diseases, as well as unplanned pregnancies, according to a recent study.

'Noel'-related rains wreaking havoc

Heavy Hurricane Noel-related rains continued to batter the island resulting in landslides and flooding in some parishes yesterday.

Money a driving factor for early sex

Guidance counsellor and family therapist Marcia Clarke says children become sexually active due to economic reasons. "Parents send their children out to get money," says Clarke, commenting on recent survey findings that adolescents ages nine to 17 are involved sexually with their peers and with older partners, for pleasure, companionship and, in some cases, money.

Cop struggles with colleague's death

During his period of training at the Police Academy in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine, Corporal Eric Williams would be constantly reminded by lecturers of the dangers of the task he and colleagues had enlisted to undertake. The risky nature of the job was underscored by the numerous insurance sales representatives that visited the facility.

CWC legacy - Investments coming

THE ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) ended in the Caribbean over six months ago. While the excitement that was associated with the event has long died down, the Jamaica Trade and Invest (formerly JAMPRO) says the country is now poised to capitalise on the benefits of hosting the event.

Portland in development mode

From the six-seater helicopter, the view of the mountains between St. Andrew and Portland is spectacular. Peering into the valleys between hills and mountains is like looking into someone's throat and seeing all the way to the stomach. Awesome!

CWC legacy - No foreign enquiries yet for Trelawny stadium

THE TRELAWNY Multi-Purpose Stadium may have been lavishly displayed on March 11 when it hosted the opening ceremony for the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC), but it appears not to have caught the interest of overseas sporting teams - at least, not yet.
