LETTER OF THE DAY - Tackle squatter problem with all-island government housing
The Editor, Sir:We have built wonderful highways linking most of the major towns and cities, made tremendous advances in information and other technology, but as a nation, we have for too long ignored a simple need: to provide more and better housing for our citizens.

Is global warming a local threat?

The Editor, Sir: Now that even George Bush II has been persuaded that global warming is not a fiction, it seems important for us to be clear about the real effects that the melting of Canada's ice is likely to have on places like Kingston Harbour.

Whither Flexi Work idea?

"Whither flexible working arrangements in this era of globalisation? I heard some mention of it during the election, but the last major article I clipped out on the subject was on the front page of The Gleaner October 23, 2006, ''flexi' talks resurface'.

Case of the caring corporal

The Editor, Sir:I am writing this to commend Corporal Evans Williams of the Constant Spring Police Station.

Tighten up on work permits

The Editor, Sir:I am very glad that the Government of Jamaica has decided to tighten up on the work permit situation for non-nationals working in Jamaica.

Death penalty is a must

The Editor, Sir: Please allow me to express my horror, my disgust and my anger at the recent murders of babies, nine-year-old children, old men, women and other people across the spectrum by marauding miscreants turning their guns on this defenceless society.
