LETTER OF THE DAY - A crime against poor people
The Editor, Sir: I feel guilty of committing a crime against the poor people of this country. I had taken an oath that I would do what was necessary to stop the bad policemen from carrying out their acts of atrocity against the people of this beautiful land.

Wrong move, ODPEM

The Editor, Sir: I was at the Portmore Mall on Saturday and happened upon a promotional roadshow put on by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) in the car park. It was promoting 'Hurricane Awareness Month'. One of the aspects of the show was dance contests.

Don't slander the police

The Editor, Sir: Permit me to reply to Kofi Jones who wrote a letter on how bad the Jamaican police are because of the shooting in a school yard. You, sir, are sitting upstate New York and you know absolutely nothing about the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

NOTE-WORTHY: The courts and Parliament

Perhaps the legal commentators who are decrying the minimum sentence provision in the recent electoral draft legislation will share their thoughts as to whether the legislation should have stated maximum sentences as well. Surely, that is incompatible with the courts' rights...
