Ebony Strikers, Alpha ready to rumble
published: Thursday | May 17, 2007

Robert Bailey, Freelance Writer

THE LEILA Robinson Court will be buzzing with excitement today when Ebony Strikers face Alpha in the feature game of the semi-finals of the Supreme Ventures Division A League starting at 7:00 p.m.

In the day's other semi-final, Molynes A oppose Hampshire A.

In the Supreme Ventures Division C League semi-finals starting at 6:00 p.m., Friendship will face Grants Pen Archers and Jetsetters C tackle Omega B.

Ebony Strikers booked their spot in the semi-finals after edging Alexander Strikers 31-30 in the quarter-finals. Alpha defeated Skibo A 47-45 to reach the semis.

Terence Peart, coach of Ebony Strikers, said he was optimistic about his team's chances.

"We are pretty confident," said Peart. "We beat them (Alpha) in the preliminary round and if we play like how we played against them in that game, we should be able to win quite comfortably. Alpha are a good team but I don't think they are defensively solid and once we exploit that we should win the game," he said.

Success

Ebony Strikers will be depending on the likes of goal defence Teisha Rowe Webber, goal shooter Loraine Lewis and wing attack Claudia Redman, who have played a pivotal part in their team's success this season.

Janet Guy, coach of Alpha, said: "Both teams are very good. Because we lost to them in the preliminary round we definitely have a score to settle and I am confident we can beat them. We are going to play a very calm and cool game and display good netball skills for all to enjoy," she said.

Alpha will once again be relying on the likes of former national Under-16 goal shooter Vanessa Walker, goal defence Dacia Barnes and centre Ann Kay Morris.
