'Continue to speak out, Dr Thompson
published: Friday | August 8, 2003
THE EDITOR, Sir: I WRITE to congratulate Dr. Herbert Thompson on his speech, as reported in Thursday's, August 7, 2003 edition of The Gleaner. I take no side on the religion (for religion sake) aspect of his speech but I do agree wholeheartedly that a compulsory course in religion (dare I say all or most), significantly contributes to the moral building of this nation's students - future leaders/participators. His bold condemnation of successive governments for their hypocracy is commendable. His statement of the facts of his wife's absence from the function, should send a message - should! His "makes me sick", is a sentiment shared by many of us. We have become so inured to our politicians' procrastination and outright lies, that others may think that we are merely cynical. This is not so, we have merely become self-centred. Continue to speak out, Dr. Thompson, as often as possible, as loudly as you can or are permitted to, mayhap one day someone in authority will hear, we hope, we pray. Continue also the work that you do at Northern Caribbean University, many of us recognise the sacrifice that you and your staff are making towards nation-building.
