Stop the power cuts now

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM expressing my views about the frequent power outages occurring after a promise to the public that all the problems had ceased. These power outages are sometimes prolonged and reach a peak during the time in which students are preparing for exams. This is not only a problem for students but is also a problem for businesses as most are small and do not have the capital to purchase a generator.

If Jamaica wishes to compete internationally, the country cannot afford to have the frequent and prolonged disruptions in electricity supplies. Also of note is the time these outages occur e.g. between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., when many students are doing assignments or studying.

I am suggesting that the Jamaica Public Service Company does everything in its power to upgrade its system over the shortest possible period of time and thereafter provide customers with some guarantee that it will be provided with reliable, uninterrupted electricity supply.

I am, etc.,

S.J. SOLOMON
