THE INVESTIGATION of drug running involving six rank and file policemen from the St. Andrew North Division has been intensified and The Gleaner understands that investigators have now turned their attention to senior police officers.
"The investigation has been directed elsewhere and is now implicating other policemen," said a high-ranking officer close to the investigation.
Reports are that fresh evidence has surfaced, clearing the names of the three detectives an inspector and two sergeants who were among six policemen transferred from the St. Andrew North Division.
Last Friday, at least two of the detectives were questioned at the CIB Headquarters in downtown Kingston, while the decision to transfer the inspector to Manchester was reversed. He is to report for duties today at the Kingston Central CIB.
There have been reports that late last year a police party went to the Two Sister's Cave in St. Catherine, where they found more than 1,000 pounds of cocaine. Instead of turning it in, the lawmen shared the coke among themselves.
But according to reports reaching The Gleaner, the drug was not found at the Two Sister's Cave. An informed police source said the find was made December 24 last year when a police party raided a house in the Silver Stone community of Portmore, St. Catherine.
The top brass of the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) is also probing reports that an M-16 rifle was taken from the house along with the cocaine. The gun seizure was not reported to the authorities, and there are further allegations that the stolen cocaine has been stashed away in the Havendale community of St. Andrew.
Over the last five years there have been several major investigations into allegations of police involvement in drug running.
