Tinson Pen plane crash kills one

A SINGLE-ENGINE plane crashed yesterday after take-off about 600 feet from the Tinson Pen Aerodrome, killing one man and seriously injuring another.

Superintendent Fredrick Williams, divisional commander of the St. Andrew South Police Division, said the plane, a 6YJWB Cessnar 150 aircraft, was on a training flight.

The identities of the two men on board were not immediately released. The survivor was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) by witnesses, police said.

According to an eyewitness, Cleo Rogers, 26, of Majestic Gardens, the man who died was trapped in the plane when she along with her seven brothers arrived at the scene.

Miss Rogers said when they arrived they saw one of the men running from the plane. The man trapped in the plane was screaming for help. She said that the thick smoke prevented she and her brothers from rescuing the man who was trapped.

The police said the plane flew out of the Aerodrome at about 3:20 p.m.
