
CampbellCABINET HAS approved the award of a US$13.7 million contract to Nippon Koei from Japan and Montgomery Watson Harza in the United States to provide design and project consultation services to the Kingston Metropolitan Area Water Supply System.
The aims of the project are to increase the current service levels and meet the increasing water supply demand by rehabilitating facilities, reduce unaccounted for water, develop additional sources and strengthen the National Water Commission's institutional capacity.
Colin Campbell, Information Minister, told reporters at Jamaica House on Monday that as part of the project, the supply of potable water to the Greater Spanish Town and South East St. Catherine areas will be upgraded.
On another matter, Mr. Campbell said Cabinet had received a status report on the 2001/2002 Legislative Programme. This is the second report for the year with respect to matters for which Cabinet has already given drafting instructions.
Minister Campbell reported that as at November 2001, the programme had 151 items, up from 128 items at the last report in July.
Of this amount, 12 have been passed, 20 tabled, six before the legislative committee, 74 were being drafted and 39 have already received drafting instructions.
He gave the assurance that staffing levels at the Chief Parliamentary Counsel was adequate to deal with the number of Bills.
