IssaAT A time when investors are scared to put their money where their mouths are, John Issa and the SuperClubs family have taken a mammoth step and are forging ahead with major developments at Hedonism II, Negril.
The former Negril Beach Village that was changed to Hedonism II 20 years ago is undergoing massive expansion, and word on the streets of Negril is that the "Hedonistic" resort will be dubbed the "Las Vegas of Negril" when the US$250 million development that is taking place there is completed in mid-December.
"We really need to thank the Development Bank of Jamaica and the Bank of Nova Scotia that have both assisted in the financing of the project," says Mr. John Issa, chairman of SuperClubs.
He says the confidence he has in the hotel and the tourism industry has motivated him to do this type of expansion during a period of uncertainty that tourism worldwide is faced with.
"It is the resort that started the totally all-inclusive industry worldwide, the resort that gave birth to all others. Hedonism II is currently being elevated to another level and this time around no name change is necessary," he says.
A new Japanese restaurant is being added, an air-conditioned spa, with nine treatment rooms, a beauty salon, cold and hot plunge pools, jacuzzis, steam rooms and saunas. Both a brand new gym and aerobic room for the health-conscious guests form part of the improvements that guests and staff will experience.
