New tech centre at Bureau of Standards

A TECHNICAL information centre at the Jamaica Bureau of Standards will act as a source of information for Jamaican businesses and organisations that have adopted or intend to adopt environmental management systems (EMS).

The centre is the repository of scientific information comprising over 74,000 national and international standards, local and foreign regulations and a variety of technical journals and books, a release from the National Environment and Planning Agency said yesterday.

A special section of the centre is to organise and make information on environmental management systems available to Jamaican industries and organisations.

Organisations adopting EMS can benefit from a reduction of waste, improved pro-cesses for service deliver, increased internal efficiencies and business competitiveness.

The systems can also "help to minimise risks in organisations and verify environmental performance for banks and insurance companies who now require this information before funding projects," the agency said.

For additional information on EMS information for Jamaica and its industries, visit www.jbs.org.jm/ems/sponsors/cwip/documents.html.
