Reno FC's draw with leaders Harbour View is being viewed as the perfect fillip to kick-start their revival in the Digicel Premier League.
The Westmoreland team, rooted at the bottom of the standings alongside Trelawny's Village with 22 points, rallied late in the second half after trailing 2-0 to tie 2-2 with leaders Harbour View in an exciting home encounter at Frome Sports Complex on Sunday. More than 10 minutes were added to the second half.
Reno had earned a penalty while they were down 2-0, which was wasted by Nicholi Findlayson as Harbour View custodian Dwayne Miller made a diving save and was injured in the follow-up attempt by Findlayson, as he reacted to clutch the ball that had spilled.
This could easily be considered a win for Reno, who were earning their first point in this third round, following losses in their previous four matches.
Overwhelmed
"This game was tremendous and we are overwhelmed," said coach Aaron Lawrence.
"So now we can use this as a start to go forward," added the former national custodian, who represented Reno when they copped the national league in its glory days nearly two decades ago.
Harbour View had taken the lead early with the goals coming less than one minute apart.
Kevin Woolery went on the scorecard first with a goal from a cross that was bungled by Reno defender Omar Dallas in the eighth minute.
Reno had not recovered from that goal when captain Jermaine Hue got the better of a malfunctioned offside trap. Alone with the Reno keeper Dennis Taylor, he netted easily.
Close to the end of the game, Reno made the three changes which would go down as the all-important decisions of the coaching staff.
Cannonball shot
Troy Reid, Ricardo Scott and Renario Downswell were introduced and in the 87th, Reid served a pass from the left which went to Downswell, who marked his spot and drove the ball home to halve the deficit.
Harbour View, now with the odds against them, had to work doubly hard in the 10 minutes that were added to the game, during which their 'keeper was nursed on several occasions.
The injured Miller poorly handled a cannonball shot from Gary McIntosh and substitute Scott followed through to score the equaliser from a goalmouth melee.
Harbour View's coach, Donovan Hayles, expressed disappointment with the time added and the performance of his team, saying the game was given away in the last 10 minutes.
"Reno did what we were supposed to do, which is to maintain composure and keep possession of the ball," said Hayles.
