Change the strategy

The Editor, Sir:
When will our governments (PNP/JLP) abandon the usual 'go-it-alone, do-as-we-please' policy on matters of public interest? I will cite a few examples:
| (1) | Decades ago the government of the day had what amounted to a 'land giveaway' to foreign bauxite companies. |
Citizens were paid little or nothing for their bauxite fruit-producing farmland. (2) | We had the government of the day selling off prime embassy real estate, property Jamaica owned all over the world, with no input from the opposition. |
| (3) | We learnt after the fact that the Jamaican government, through the ministry of tourism, may have to pay America Airlines money in a business deal that so far is not very beneficial to Jamaica. |
| (4) | Now we have the return to the IMF without any meaningful discussion or input of the opposition or the concerned public. |
| (5) | We have Prime Minister Bruce Golding, in a one man show, jetting off to Trinidad and Tobago in his quest to offload Air Jamaica to satisfy the demand of the IMF. |
| (6) | We now have massive tax increase again without public discourse or discussion in Parliament. |
As a nation we cannot continue to conduct business the usual go-it-alone way. Matters that involve taxpayers footing the bill should be up for public discussion before decisions are made; more so when they pertain to matters of national interest. I am etc., Authnel Reid authnelreid@optonline.net
