Cavalier capitalise as Santos falter

Cavalier regained the lead atop the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Claro Super League standings after clipping Bull Bay 1-0 at the Spring Complex in their 12th-round match on Saturday.

Cavalier's leading goalscorer, Locksey Thompson, scored his seventh goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 19th minute to ensure that his team maintains its unbeaten home record.

The result kept Bull Bay ninth on 10 points, while Cavalier moved up to 27 points, two clear of second-place Rae Town.

Rae Town blanked bottom-place Maverley/Hughenden 3-0 at Breezy Castle courtesy of strikes from Renel Colley in the second minute and their leading scorer, Damion Jackson, in the 43rd and 89th minutes.

Mountain View came from behind twice to beat previous leaders Santos 3-2 in the Vineyard Town derby.

Demetrio Billett and Orane Sutherland scored Santos' goals in the 11th and 55th minutes, respectively, while Mountain View responded through goals from Troyland Williams, Yoan Blake and Jahmiah Pettigrew in the 53rd, 72nd and 84th minutes.

First defeat

This was Santos' first defeat in six matches and the result has seen them fall to third in standings, while Mountain View preserved their unbeaten home record.

Fourth-place Constant Spring also scored a 3-0 victory and maintained their unbeaten home record, as they got the better of 11th-place Meadhaven United. Denzil Mitchell, Gawayne Speed and Andrew Davis netted in the16th, 23rd and 72nd minutes, respectively.

The Jamaica Defence Force held on to fifth position after clipping Duhaney Park 1-0 courtesy of a seventh-minute strike from Allien Whittaker.

A hat-trick from Steve Richards carried Real Mona to a 3-1 win over Barbican. Richards hit the net in the eighth, 68th and 88th minutes, while Dasean Meek got Barbican's consolation in the 71st minute.

In the second-tier Claro Major League competition, UWI remain leaders despite going down 1-3 to Rockfort, who got two goals from Rayon Brown (20th, 55th) and Shawn Freckleton in the 86th minute. UWI's consolation was scored by Jeffrey Brown in the 33rd minute.

Second-place Central Kingston were also beaten, as they were clipped 1-0 by Whitfield. Ashek Taylor scored the game's lone goal in the 28th minute. Molynes United were also 1-0 winners over Olympic Gardens, thanks to an 82nd-minute strike from Sydney Manyon. Greenwich Town was the round's other 1-0 winner as their captain, David Stultz's 11th-minute goal, was enough to get them past Cooreville Gardens.

Police National remain third after blanking Swallowfield Town 2-0. Andre Palmer and Howard McKenzie were the scorers in the 23rd and 69th minutes, respectively.

Liguanea and Brown's Town played to the round's only draw. DeAndre Rodney opened the scoring for Liguanea in the 44th minute, but Marvin Maddo equalised in the 57th.
