Western Bureau:

Champions Tivoli Gardens end their six-game winless streak in the 2009-10 Digicel Premier League yesterday afternoon when they scored an easy 3-0 win over struggling Village United at the Ellistson Wakeland Youth Centre in Falmouth.

The Tivoli Gardens team, which has now moved up 35 points, got their goals through a brace from dynamic midfielder Keammar Daley and a single strike from skipper Navion Boyd.

By virtue of their loss, Village remain rooted at the bottom of the standings on 15 points, the same as Humble Lions and August Town, which registered a surprising come-from-behind 4-2 win over Arnett Gardens at UWI Bowl. Aphas Bernard (28th), Rohan McDonald (65th), Kemel Mullings (80th) and Jermaine Simpson (92nd) scored for August Town, while Kevin Wilson (13th) and Kevin King (16th) netted for the Junglists.

Following their second win this round yesterday, Tivoli Gardens coach, Lenworth Hyde Sr, said: "We were going through a bad patch and it is nice that the players played themselves out of it by getting three goals here today. Let us hope that this is the beginning of a run in which we will get some positive results."

In what was closely contested opening stanza, Village United created the first chance in the fourth minute but Delroy Ellis directed his header straight at the goalkeeper.

With Tivoli settling down and stringing neat passes through the Village defence, they were awarded a close range free kick in the 11th minute. The kick by Daley left the goalkeeper a mere spectator as the ball curled into the roof of the net, making the score 1-0.

With Village United looking disorganised and ineffective going forward, Tivoli continued to call the shots with Boyd and Daley wreaking havoc going forward.

With the game 34 minutes old, Tivoli Gardens doubled the lead when a looping cross from the right fell into the path of Daley, whose well-directed header proved too good for the Village custodian as it sailed over his head and into the goal, making the score 2-0.

Pressure

Village created a couple of chances but faulty finishing prevented them from scoring, which would have added some pressure on Tivoli Gardens, which finally increased their tally in the 83rd minute through the brilliance of Boyd.

He won possession just outside the penalty area and twisted and turned his way into a shooting position and fired past the hapless goalkeeper, making the score 3-0.

Meanwhile, Boys' Town and Waterhouse stayed in close touch, at joint fourth on 30 points, with close wins. Oneil McDonald scored in time-added on for Boys' Town to beat St Georges Sports Club 1-0 at Lynch Park, while Kevin Lamey and Kenardo Forbes netted for Waterhouse - who had Hugh Powell red-carded - to beat Humble Lions 2-1 at Effortville Community Centre. Kevin Mighty scored for Humble Lions.
