Cardenas ... rides The Guv.

With form players experiencing a rough time at Caymanas Park last Saturday, the Pick-9 had no takers. The carryover remains at $1 million.

The Pick-9 embraces races three to 11 while the Super-6, which starts anew, will be conducted from race six to 11.

We look at the Super-6 which gets under way with a 3-y-o maiden condition race over 1200 metres to be contested by 12 starters. Included in the line-up are SEEK GOLD, DE-BACHELOR, CANNTARRA and newcomer EXPRESS TRAIN, who is sufficiently well forward to fight out the finish.

DE-BACHELOR will have lots of supporters following his fair fourth to ROJO over this trip on November 29, but SEEK GOLD was ahead of him on that occasion when running on to finish four lengths third, and gets a glorious opportunity to open her account. CANNTARRA, who went down by three-quarter length to STORM TRACKER over the round five course last Saturday, should also enter the reckoning, as she had SEEK GOLD behind in fourth that day. But SEEK GOLD was running on strongly for fourth 31/2 lengths away, and given the additional furlong, looks the one to beat.

Close race

Next on the programme is an overnight allowance race over 1600 in which 11 have been declared. SLOGAN, THE GREYT DOCTOR, GRACE MARIE, TOBAGO and the 2007 Derby winner THE BOMBER should decide the outcome, and I envisage a close race.

THE BOMBER represents the class horse of the field, even though sparingly raced in the past year. A versatile sort, THE BOMBER is perfectly at home over the distance, and having been stepped up at exercise, can score an overdue win.

Preference, however, is for THE GREYT DOCTOR (Brian Harding up) who has looked real sharp at exercise under the watchful eye of 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny. The four-year-old grey gelding is actually down in class for this race, and judging from his decisive victory over SLOGAN in a 1400-metre race on August 8, gets the nod over THE BOMBER and old rival SLOGAN.

competitive RACE

Briefly, THE GUV, who just failed to catch BRASH & SASSY over 1300 metres last Saturday, should lead home the imported horses DIABOLICAL KID and PLEASANT PRINCESS in the competitive-looking eighth race over the straight, to be contested by 11 starters.

Then, take MINISTEROFFINANCE, having beaten better in the not-too-distant past, over the recent disqualified winner LADY WALES and THUNDER STORM in the ninth, consistent SKIPPING SUE to win the 10th for the Titania Trophy over 1100m in which RUNIN ON EMPTY (working well) looks the principal danger, before closing with down-in-class MISS TIMS.
