Carolyn Hayle
HEART's new boss
The Board of directors of the HEART Trust/NTA has appointed Dr Carolyn Hayle executive director, effective November 16, marking a return to her old stomping ground.
Hayle, who has three decades of service in public agencies - including a seven-year run at the World Bank - and academia, previously served as national programmes director at the training agency in the 1990s, and was named Boss of the Year while there in 1994.
She went on to run Tourism Action Plan (TAP) as executive director, an agency once focused on developing the cultural side of Jamaica as a value-added component of the hospitality industry under a private/public-sector partnership.
TAP's activities have since been folded into other state institutions.
Hayle later worked at the University of the West Indies as senior programme officer at the Institute for Hospitality and Tourism.
She has sat on various school boards, and is a director of Air Jamaica and the Jamaica Tourist Board.
Mark Golding departs
Mark Golding
The Bank of Nova Scotia Jamaica Limited and Scotia Group Jamaica Limited have advised that Mark Golding has resigned from the board of directors, effective December 9.
Golding, an opposition senator and shadow spokesman on commerce, has reportedly teamed up with his old partner Peter Bunting and others in a new investment firm.
The new company is yet to go into operation but its business would, in effect, be a rival to Scotiabank subsidiary, Scotia DBG Investments Limited, a firm in which he once had substantial ownership.
Golding, Bunting and Gary Sinclair two years ago sold out their interest in Dehring, Bunting and Golding - later rebranded Scotia DBG - to the Canadian-owned banking group.
Their non-compete agreements under that deal lifts this month, freeing them to venture - alongside Chris Williams - into a new outfit that they plan to call Proven Investments.
Almeida heads business support at Scotia DBG
Scotia DBG Investments Limited has advised that Paulo Almeida has been appointed vice-president, business support, effective December 1.
The appointment follows a reorganisation of the management structure in which the position of vice-president, operations was eliminated.
Consequently, Suzette Holness lost her job, effective November 18.
The reorganisation began in August, with chief executive Anya Schnoor saying the process would have been wrapped up by year end.
H&L adds Roberts to board
Hardware & Lumber Limited has advised that Simon Roberts was appointed a member of the board of directors on November 10.
Roberts is the company's chief executive officer, a job he took up November 1.
He was formerly general manager of GraceKennedy Logistics Services.
