The 'Red Brigade' maintained their unbeaten home record as they played to a 1-1 draw with fierce rivals Tivoli Gardens at Collie Smith Drive yesterday in the Digicel Premier League west Kingston derby.

The result marks Tivoli's fifth draw of the second round, in which they have played six matches - moving to 32 points, five clear of Boys' Town.

Boys' Town, despite looking the livelier of the two teams, found themselves behind two minutes before half-time when Keammar Daley scored to put Tivoli in front. He won a ball close to the half line and shocked two defenders before unleashing a 25-yard drive which left Boys' Town keeper Kirk Porter rooted to the spot, as it sneaked in between the left upright and crossbar.

The second half saw the Red Brigade take control of game and they were duly rewarded in the 69th minute when Daemion Benjamin redirected a low corner taken by captain Michael Campbell to score the equaliser.

Coach conceded

Tivoli's coach, Lenworth Hyde Sr, conceded that Boys' Town had the better of play.

"I must give Boys' Town the edge, I think they played more spirited seeing that they were at home," Hyde said.

"If we can't win the game, a draw is good enough but we would like three points every time we play," he added.

Andrew Price, coach of Boys' Town, was pleased with maintaining their unbeaten home record but slightly disappointed with not coming away with a win.

"It is a valuable point. It is all about accumulation of points for this round and we have defended our unbeaten run at home," Price said.

"Whenever we play at home, we want to win so I am a little bit disappointed we weren't able to get three points; we have to get ourselves prepared for the next game," he added.

That next game for Boys' Town will be a tough encounter away at Lynch Park against St Georges.

Missed opportunity

St Georges played out a 0-0 stalemate with Sporting Central at Brancourt. The result means Georges are now on 31 points and have missed the opportunity to take the lead, while Sporting secured their 18th point.

August Town, for the second successive game, conceded a goal deep into stoppage time as Village United came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw.

Akeem Thenstead gave August Town the lead in the fifth minute but it took only seven minutes for Village to equalise through Cordel Simpson.

August Town's keeper Devon Haughton then converted a 38th-minute penalty, but he was sent off five minutes into stoppage time for bringing down a player. Troy Smith scored the resulting penalty kick to earn Village a share of the points and move them to 17 points, while August remain at the bottom of the standings on 12 points.
