Devon A. Thomas ... rides Ghost Rapper - File

Another Sunday meet, the second and final for this year, takes place at Caymanas Park today with eight races scheduled. Post time is 1 p.m.

Having learnt a lesson or two from the historic first-ever Sunday meet on November 29, Caymanas Track Limited (CTL) is better prepared to cope with any problems that may arise, said Chris Armond, a director of the promoting company.

Another massive crowd is expected at the track today, as off-track betting and live broadcasts of the races are still prohibited on a directive from the Government which came days before the first meet.

Given the record crowd which turned up for the first meet resulting in the facilities at Caymanas Park buckling under the pressure, CTL has reviewed the situation and has put additional plans in place.

Gates will be opened much earlier than usual, while spillover traffic from the car park at the western end of the track will be diverted to the in-field.

trophy races

Meanwhile, two trophy races have been included on the card - the three-year-old restricted allowance race (non-winners of two) for the Joseph Armond Memorial Cup over 1820 metres to be contested by nine starters, and the Richard Ashenheim Memorial Cup two-year-old maiden condition race over 1500 metres in which 15 have been declared.

GHOST RAPPER, who finished fifth to HE'S REALLY OK in the June 13 Derby, has the credentials to win the Joseph Armond Memorial Cup ahead of COUGWAY and RUNNING LOOSE.

Trained by Anthony Subratie, GHOST RAPPER has run creditably in his last three races and, with the distance now ideal, will not go down easily from the convenient mark of 54.0kg. Competent Devon A. Thomas has the ride.

Other firm fancies on the card are the lightly raced GOLDEN HARVEST ahead of HEARTOFACHAMPION in the Richard Ashenheim Memorial Cup, PICCOLO in the first race, THE CHIEF in the third, unbeaten CASSANOVA BOY in the fifth and down-in-class BABY JAZZ over CIRCLE DROME in the nightpan.
